While we were in Oklahoma City we stopped at the site where the Oklahoma City bombing occured to see the Memorial. Since we were both pretty young when the bombing happened (back in 1995) we did some of our own research and read all the signs and brochures they had there.
This was at the entrance to the Memorial. NW 5th was the street where the bombing happened, just right behind this wall
This is the reflecting pool where NW 5th St use to run
The grassy part with all the trees and monuments is where the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building once stood. Right at the edge of the pool is where McVeigh had parked the truck bomb.
This "Survivor Tree" was in the parking lot of the building at the time of the bombing and is still standing today
This is the Journal Record Building which was right next to the Murrah building. When the bomb went off the roof of this building got blown off and there was significant damage done to this wall.
The "Gates of Time" frame the moment of destruction (9:02). 9:01 am was the "minute of innocence" of the city before the attack
9:03-the minute Oklahoma City was changed forever
"The Field of Empty Chairs". These are 168 empty chairs for each person that was killed.
The smaller ones represent the children that died. So sad.
This Memorial site was beautiful and we really enjoyed being able to visit and walk around it and learn so much.
