While Austin and Jessica were visiting, and since I've never been to Pearl Harbor before, we dropped Ryan off at work one morning and went to check out the Pearl Harbor Memorial. It was really humbling to be in the place where so much tragedy happened and where so much history was made. My favorite part of the whole experience was probably the video they had us watch right before we got onto the boat to go out to the memorial. There was a bunch of actual footage in the video and it was really moving to watch it. Jessica and I had goosebumps almost throughout the whole thing.
Then we got to board the small boat that took us out to the memorial which lies right above where the USS Arizona sunk. The other neat thing we learned that day was that the 334 surviving crew members from the Arizona have the opportunity once they die to have their ashes taken down by a diver to the sunken ship so they may lay to rest with their other shipmates that had fallen that day.
After we viewed the memorial we got to go around and check out some of the submarines they had there.
